Subject: Bee Gees Hits
Hi group,
I need some help. I hear it said that the boys had hits in 5 decades.
Some of those may be "Guilty" and "Islands in The Stream" and some may have
been hits in the US, UK or elsewhere.
My sister-in-law recently indicated that the only thing they ever did was
SNF. I politely said "hits in 5 decades" but would appreciate a list. I
don't really care where the songs were hits. BTW, what is considered a hit?
A Top 10?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know the boys really don't need
me to defend them. But it is so irritating when SNF is the only thing
anyone thinks of when they hear Bee Gees. I am sure you all understand, but
after seeing "In Our Own Time", my musical life is pretty much Bee Gees 24 -
7. All 6 CD's in my car are compilations of my favorite songs.
Thanks,
Lissa

I wouldn't have been so polite.

The Top Ten used to be a pretty good benchmark, although it seemed a lot of
songs in the Top 20 back in the sixties, or even the 70's, was considered
a hit. Look at all of those Top 20 Bee Gees songs of the late 60's & early
70's. I'm not sure what constitutes a hit now. I don't much care either.

It's always been unfair. Sort of a curse for them really. Perhaps it was
the price they paid?

Hello Lissa,
Just a fraction:
60s Massachusetts (No. 1 in UK) et al.
70s How Can You Mend A Broken Heart (No. 1 in US) et al.
80s You Win Again (No. 1 in UK) et al.
90s Seret Love (No. 5 in UK) et al.
Tragedy (performed by Steps) (No. 1 in UK)
2000s Islands in the Stream (No. 1 in UK) (Robin did this for
charity in 2009 with British comedians)
Actually, I thought they had No. 1 hits in 5 decades. Maybe
that's as songwriters? So I included Tragedy by Steps in the 90s.
Best,
Kate
