And, yet it's practially identical: the intro, the ad libs etc... It's weaker though, because it's too much at the same level and I think it loses energy during the instrumental passage. I wonder how it sounded when the demo was sent to the Backstreet boys, who (I'm told) rejected it. Maybe the only reason that it didn't hit the charts was the fact that it wasn't ever released as a single. If it had been, who knows? I think TIWICI is a fantastic song and a personal favourite of mine, but ST is much simpler and catchier - the sort of song you might hear people whistling in the street. But nobody heard it unless they heard the album. The big mistake was not releasing this one as a single. I said this before, but I > want to repeat it: musical taste deteriorated heavily in the last two > decades, and pop music is no longer about talent and creativity but > money and marketing. Would anyone listen to their music at > all, or would they be told, "you boys do not dance well enough" or > something in that line? > I think you're probably right there - too many people in the business are far more interested in lining their pockets than discovering and producing quality musicians. I don't think it's necessarily the public's taste having deteriorated. In my early teens, I often admired male singers more for their sex appeal than for their musical talent. When I hear music of that period now, I am far more conscious of their musical abilities. But now there are far more acts around that have cashed in on this. Hundreds of bands are being artificially created purely for the charts, so the good stuff has even less chance of getting in. But let's face it. The charts consists mainly of CDs bought by teenagers. There's plenty of far superior music that doesn't make the charts. And if three middle-aged musicians have kept up so well with the times that they still have young fans all over the world who regularly buy their music and are willing to pay for the best seats at their concerts, I think that's pretty remarkable in itself, whether or not they make the charts.
