My wife (who's not a real muso) said she found the new version to be dull, even though it's more of an upbeat song. I worked on this to understand what she meant and we ended up agreeing that it's less dynamic - i.e. it's moreorless all at the same volum Otherwise, (whilst I recognise that One True Voice has more pulling power) the fact that this has been released as a dead-cert no. 1 or or no.2 proves that the Bee Gees' not releasing it, ranks up there as a boo-boo with not releasing "I Started a Joke" i Kilburn Towers Order copies of Ordinary People, the new Bee Gees tribute album with a difference: www.tophatevents.co.uk/tribute.html -------------------- talk21 your FREE portable and private address on the net at http://www.talk21.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 8 Dec 2002 11:15:56 GMT From: robin-alexis@talk21.com Subject: David English I met David English yesterday at a book signing, in North London. What a charming bloke! I told him that he has a common link between two of my biggest heros: Barry Gibb and Ian Botham. He told me he could tell me loads about those to and what magnific I asked him to sign my copy of "Ordinary People", which he did enthusiastically. He seemed to have lots of time to talk to me, but I felt that I didn't want to keep him and probably cut him short (I'm quite shy really :-)) I asked him about whether there's much Bunburys stuff about - he said that he might have some books at home and took my address and phone number. (He actually lives about a mile from me!) I'd be surprised if he did call me, but you never know. I then asked if he had any plans to dress up in drag again on any more BGs videos. That brought a real smile to his face. He said it was brilliant fun doing that. But who decided only to release one song?, that is the one to blame...., seems like someone didn't believe in what the Gibb had done. I listened to TIWICI the other day, and in my opinion is an album that can be considered weak as an album (maybe too many styles in it), but if we listen to the songs individually almost all of them are really great. To me it resembles a lot to Living Eyes, not a good album full of great tunes and both released at the begining of a decade....(curious isn't it?). I hope the next Bee Gees album will be stronger, they deserve more succes as the quality of their work is still great, and in this case, a good impact from Robin's CD would help in many ways to open again the ears from many people who have forgotten how great the Bee Gees are. Toni. " What a pity the Bee Gees didn't release it as a single. Although I love TIWICI (the title track, that is), I rhink ST is more catchy and may have had more potential as chart material. I feel sure that this is going to be a big hit. To me, that variety of styles is the very strength of the album! It shows the bros. diverse talents and in that respect is a welcome departure from the approach they adopted to Still Waters. But I agree that the lack of a second single is the biggest mystery. They planned for it; then nothing. I assume it had something to do with Universal not backing them, and that in turn had something to do with their unannounced yet obvious decision to take time off from recording together. The Einstein who decided to release The Record instead of another great song from TIWICI let them down, big time. I wouldn't be surprised if they're quite bitter about it, albeit I say that without knowing the background. > > I hope the next Bee Gees album will be stronger, they deserve more succes as > the quality of their work is still great, and in this case, a good impact > from Robin's CD would help in many ways to open again the ears from many > people who have forgotten how great the Bee Gees are. > I think we can all agree with that! --==*Anne and ^..^ bgfan@sympatico.ca ------------------------------ End words@brothersgibb.com Digest [12/08/2002 12:01] ----------------------------------------------------
