I myself am not a fan. In the late 1980s his "Hit Factory" dominated the UK Charts, with a series of number 1's, built upon instantly recognisable hooks. Often, th His music went out of fashion at the start of the 1990s, but he's come back of late and is best known as one of the judges in Popstars. Whatever the version of Sacred Trust sounds like, it will be a huge hit - probably number 1. So, I think this is good news. Clearly, Waterman was less than impressed with the Bee Gees rendition of the song in TIWICI, so it would be interesting to hear t It's ironic, because Robin recently had a real go at things like Popstars (and I for one was glad that he did), but having a Gibb song in the UK charts around the time of his single release won't exactly do him any harm. The band, whose final line-up was decided following a phone vote on Satur= day night's 'Popstars - The Rivals', will release the track next month in a bid to land the coveted Christmas number one spot. Record boss Pete Waterman, who joined the band in London yesterday, descr= ibed the final line-up as "a dream" and threatened to commit suicide if their "sensational" single didn't go straight to the top of the charts. "Barry [Gibb] played me the song three years ago and I loved it," he expl= ained. "It wasn't right for artists on my books then, so the Bee Gees made it an= album track." "We've set a very high standard for our debut single which will be hard to beat," he added. The single, a double A-side, will be accompanied by a track entitled 'Lon= g After You're Gone', written by Waterman and band member Daniel Pearce. "This is the beginning of something great for us all," said Daniel. "We are really excited and hoping to have lots of number one hits, best selling albums and platinum discs all the way." One True Voice - Matt Johnson, Anton Gordon, Jamie Shaw, Keith Semple and= Daniel Pearce - release 'Sacred Trust' on December 16. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Nov 2002 11:23:33 -0500 From: Joseph Brennan Subject: Re: SV: Bee Gees Cover?! - More info --On Monday, November 25, 2002 16:09 +0100 Plaza Online wrote: > I love the verses of this song. This is the one that was supposed to be for the Backstreet Boys, so it was surprising to hear it as essentially a solo vocal by Barry. With Barry writing, I was expecting something designed for multiple leads, like a song with different sections or overlapping lines. We know how Barry customizes for the artist he has in mind. Until now I didn't realize the Bee Gees recording was significantly different from the original concept of the song. And one which Daniel and I have written." So maybe the Bee Gees' initial demo of Sacred Trust was more uptempo?! I've always thought that the song lacked something...maybe it would be much better as a faster and more uptempo song. I wonder if they felt they needed a ballad for This Is Where I Came In...?! It'd be cool to hear the demo which Pete Waterman obviously felt was very good! But this could mean a "Gibb" Christmas Number 1! :o) Paul __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus – Powerful. Affordable. When I saw the name, I wondered if = the > Bee Gees had finally established a label of their own.. Oh, well... Yeah, it can be tough to keep track of all the various labels that are out there. Usually people are only aware of the 5 major labels (Sony, Universal= , EMI, BMG and Warner). These 5 have practically vacuumed the world market of larger as well as smaller labels and incorporated them into their own. And if they're not completely bought up they most likely have a major bite out of their stock portfolio. At one time I had a pretty good overview of who owned who but a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then... Ther= e are a lot of sub-labels these days as well as independent once too. I was somewhat surprised Robin had signed with SPV as I, for the most part, only have seen hard rock and metal rock acts on that label (and then we have our own Yngwie Malmsteen too on that label (why God, why!!))
