I'm afraid that I stopped listening countdowns (ummmm...dating myself there) many years ago simply because I got tired of always being disappointed which would quickly turn to anger/frustration that the Bee Gees were, once again, overlooked. I can't explain it. Barry is right. There is still a stigma and I'm sure they do have to deal with it every day. I guess it doesn't matter that the stigma is irrational. Hi everyone, Did anyone else in the UK sit for seven bloody hours watching Children In Need to see Robin perform "Please" from Belfast?! I think Chilldren In Need is a great way of raising money and Terry Wogan is brilliant...but where was Robin?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I was getting very p*ssed off whilst waiting for something that never came. It wouldn't be so bad if they just genuinely didn't have time to show his 3 or 4 minute song, but the thing that got to me is that they started showing things again that had already been on earlier on in the programme: * The EastEnders re-make of the "Thriller" video. * The remake of the "Vogue" video by that Trinny and Susannah women. * The BBC news people doing the Time Warp. Ok all good fun, but twice?!?!!?!?!? Also towards the end of 7 long hours they had a few sections where they showed highlights of the various concerts from around the UK; the stuff they didn't have time to go to when they happened. This is where I thought Robin would appear... But oh bloody no!!! We had two failed Popstars: *Zoe singing a crap song. *Rosie Ribbons singing another crap song If that wasn't bad enough, we had some woman called Claire Grogan (I think?!) whom I recognise from being in EastEnders a while back I think...singing...wait for it a pop version of "Happy Birthday" OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then we had a couple of prats messing around in stupid big coats! Anyway I'll stop moaning...but I'm sure Robin isn't happy that he didn't get on at all. He got one mention, which wasn't worth it really as the presenter in Belfast said...something along the lines of... "Ahhhhh Ahhhhhh Ahhhhhh we have a Bee Gee, Robin Gibb is here!" The "Ahhhhh" in the style of Stayin' Alive! (Oh how funny...NOT!) Just wondered how many ther people saw it...and if anyone was actually at the gig in Belfast?! IMHO, Barry is a far better songwriter, but Robin's the one who's got off his bum and recorded something. I've ordered my copy from Amazon.de and I can't wait to here it in full. I detest it too, although I heard Robin say, in an interview that it was one of his favourite covers. I've never heard a cover of that song that comes anywhere near the Bee Gees' own version. Despite that annoying introduction, the presenter asked him how he felt making an album without his brothers and why he was doing it. Robin explained that he had made solo recordings before. When asked about having a twin brother and whether he had telepathic contact when he needed him he said 'no, I just pick up the mobile phone' or something like that. He may have sung another song later on but I didn't wait up. In reply to me, Per Bausager wrote... > 1. I do not agree. I prefer their own version [of "If I Can't Have You"]. Really? It was one of two songs on "Bee Gees Greatest" that I thought came up a bit short, the other one being "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away," which Andy did better on his own version. On "If I Can't Have You," Barry's "waah waah WAAH! -- WAAAAAH!" at the end of each chorus reminds me of a temper tantrum. And the ending of "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away" -- dare I TALK about the ending of "(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away"? At the risk of inciting bloodthirsty flame war #209, it honestly sounds like a lost flock of sheep at the end of the song, so much so that I often start singing along with it, "baaa... baa-baa BAAAAAAA!" Which really gets me strange looks when I have the car windows down... Per Bausager continues... > 2. Although better singers, with the Barry/Albhy production backing then, could have improved on her efforts. Either way, I MUCH prefer her work to what I heard on "The Record." > 3. Indeed, it's not fair, and yet they released the demo tape on the 2-cd "The Record" collection, rather than taking time out to produce a recording worthy of the song.
