I agree with Annie 100% here. As the saying goes, membership has its privileges. If fans choose not to belong to a particular fan club, then they have no right to expect to have access to information that others pay for. Not spreading that information, Bottom line: BGQ has a long-standing personal relationship with the Bee Gees and their management. Their information is copyrighted. If you're not getting the same information as their members, then perhaps you're in the wrong fan club. Respectfully, Anne ============================================================ From: Laughinchild@aol.com Date: 2002/10/07 Mon AM 08:34:30 EDT To: "words List Member" Subject: Re: CENSORSHIP ON THIS MAILING LIST! bwichmann33@hotmail.com writes: > Aren?t we all fans of The Bee Gees and haven?t we all the right to know the > > latest details when they are available for all the clubs and web sites?? Babette, Yes, we are all fans of the Bee Gees. Yes, we have the right to know the latest details WHEN they are available for all clubs....but you are missing the points. 1. The information was COPIED word for word from the site where there is an explict warning not to do so. That is plagiarism (stealing, if you will) in its simplest form. The person who wanted to share this news, should have stated it in their own words, instead of copying it without permission from the BGQ staff. 2. The information was printed in a section called Members Only...which means it is intended for persons who have PAID their dues to access that section. ALL fan club websites have such "private" sctions and all expect the information to NOT be forwarded verbatim from there. This is industry standards for fanclub website. You can check out Elton John, Areosmith, Rolling Stones' websites, if you don't believe it. 3. This was not as you say Bee Gee news, this information was obtained through sources other than Bee Gee mangement and without the BGQ staff putting it on this section, no one would have known about it. The bottom line is, information exclusive to paid members should NOT have been printed on a public forum --==*Anne & ^..^ bgfan@sympatico.ca ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Oct 2002 18:36:28 +0200 (CEST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Ronnie=20Olsson?= Subject: A method to my madness... All other things set aside I am delighted about Robin's forthcoming album. I loved most of his solo work in the 80's and although I expect this to be more in a R&B style as Deconzo "Deacon" Smith is taking the helm as the producer (unless there are more besides him). Would've liked some more from the Robin Gibb/Peter John Vettese team but as I haven't heard of any further collaboration between them I guess I will have to make do with what is being served. It's great to see Robin getting his own official website as Universals official Bee Gees website disregarded Barry's and Robin's solo efforts completely and now the discography there is looking rather poor as more and more of the artwork is no longer visible. At least the bulletin board functions! It would be fun to see either their own separate official websites where they could focus on their own work or a new, more broader, official Bee Gees website that includes the solo stuff and where you could get access to rare recordings, either unreleased or no longer available material, in either mp3- or wav/aiff-format (big server, lots of storagespace!!!), whatever one prefers. This would be a chance for at least Maurice to get his own work heard and a chance for people to experience the Bunbury songs, Living Eyes, Now Voyager, Hawks (or his earlier version of it), Secret Agent and Walls Have Eyes. Of course, you would have to pay for the music! Let's say US$ 1.00 per song in wav/aiff-format and US$ 0.50 for .mp3-format (at 320 kbps). Dammit, I forgot my bib! I'm drooling again... Oh, nurse!!! I felt it was important to address this publicly. This will be my only reply on this matter. If after this email some of you would like to further discuss this me, please feel free to contact me privately. I will not reply again publicly. I am sure this may be discussed on the list a bit, but I do ask that it not take center stage. Robin has a new album coming out, (anyone hear anything about any possible tours?) He also has a new website coming out etc. This is what this list should be about. Point blank, Does the Words List Censor it's members. The answer is: NO. Does the Words List have general guidelines, the same guidelines that have been place for over 6 1/2 years that everyone on the list should go by? The answer is: YES Are these guidelines to restrictive and do they step on your rights? The answer is: NO Some may feel so, but they are free to look elsewhere. This is a private mailing list. Most of the people on this have never had any problems with any of the guidelines. Does the Words List deny access to those that are disruptive, spread hate and flame wars. The answer is: YES Is this Censorship? The answer is: NO There are a few people that are restricted from posting on Words. It is not because I want to help silence anyone or any group or club. It is not because I have not tried to work with most of them in the past to try and resolve any situations. I do not belong to any group or club. I was very surprised that one or two of these people, instead of trying to "work things out" never even once tried to contact me, but tried over and over to get around the list server security. (posting from "new email accounts, IP addresses, getting others to post for them, etc etc.) So much so that I had to install filters to block them. Then when they could no longer get around the list security to post on Words, now they call "Foul!". Now I'm the bad guy... Some feel that they have the right to say anything they want, however they want. This is not only selfish, but untrue. We all have the responsibility to take into consideration the other members of the list, and the list guidelines. This should be common sense. Many of you that have been around for a while know of all the "flame wars" that we all have had to endure in the past. It was at this time that some hard decisions had to me made. I do not mind if anyone posts a message now and again about their list or web site. Heck, the more the merrier! Just last week someone emailed me saying that they were going to put up a "Robin" list. They asked me if I minded if they sent an email to the Words list, about her new one. I told them I did not mind at all. Now, if that is all that this person did was to come on this list, to promote theirs, then yes, I would mind. Censorship? NO. Common courtesy, YES. This is supposed to be about having fun, showing support for the Bee Gees. Not about who can make themselves feel more important by being the one to get any tidbit of information out first. Instead of trying to bully their way into getting and doing what they want, it would be far better to work together. I am NOT directing this message at any one person or group! I am responding to a public accusation! Again, this list does NOT censor anyone, but the list, and the list members will be protected. The "Words List" nor I am anything special. I am just an average fan. The list is but one of many. The best is done to keep the list in harmony with the guidelines that it has lived by for the past 6 1/2 years. Have I made mistakes along the way, you bet! Will I make more, sadly, I'm sure I will. But not because I have not tried. .....----===*Chris... http://www.brothersgibb.com Bee Gees News and Information ------------------------------ Date: From: corbink Subject: A funny website --GW68439Wi2pe5Tgg5uC6218156g12E7N3i1kv Content-Type: text/plain ******************************* WARNING ****************************** This message has been scanned by MDaemon AntiVirus and was found to contain infected attachment(s).
