(#2005-1188) - Topics this issue: 1) All The Children (and other Pleasures), ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 09 Sep 2005 16:41:48 +0200 From: Juan Perea y Monsuwe Subject: All The Children (and other Pleasures) The unbelievable has happened: Guilty Pleasures may have turned out to be a better album than Guilty! I punish myself for not believing it from the start. I even thought, "oww as long as there are three outstanding tracks, I am already happy". That's cause I -- wrongfully -- believed in "Everyone's as good as his last album". To put it more plain: although Loose Talk and Technicolour Dreams were gems, I feared more mediocre material like The Extra Mile and Wedding Day. Yet instead, Barry shifted to the highest gear and found an inspiration, that produced delightful original up tempo songs like All The Children (he outsings Barbra here even). I know two people who will like it immediately: Bjorn and Benny from Abba. It picks up the thread where they left it with "The Piper". I can also imagine, Robert Stigwood wanted a ballad for the Saturday Night Fever musical. But I always felt Immortality didn't fit there. I am thrilled to experience now, Barry finally came up with the sixth Fever song. Night Of My Life is so over the top, it's haunting. It also proves that he left all the years of worrying about the enigma with the stigma, and the reluctant use of falsetto, or any sign hinting at the Fever / Spirits period. It's all back in full force at the new album, where it is appropriate. A pleasure to hear, Barry hits back with dance/up tempo songs like Night Of My Life and All the Children, something he hasn't done since who knows who long. But then again, Above the Law, Hideaway, Without Your Love, and Golden Dawn are brilliant from the first till the last second as well. There isn't a weak track on the album!!. Maybe Barbra inspired him in a way, being a Bee Gee couldn't in a way anymore? -- Juan ------------------------------ End words@brothersgibb.com Digest [09/09/2005 15:01] ----------------------------------------------------
