Funny I have the opposite view whenever there are trite lyrics I think of robin. I think he had added more to the melody taking it to places Barry might not have. I think robin was a lazy lyricist with beautiful melodies. Just my view of course

At times perhaps, but then how can you explain all those songs he wrote as a solo artist, as well as with the Bee Gees, with such strong lyrics? Even the odd lyrics are often interesting.
As for melody I do think Robin was certainly capable of coming up with beautiful melodies, but when I listen to all the solo material from 1969-70 I sense he was re-cycling some of the same melodies and that Kenny Clayton's arrangements and orchestration
