Subject: What the curtains?
Kate,
The curtains in August October mean 'the end'. Theatrical curtains rise and fall

Hi Julian,

Yes, that's what I thought and meant. I thought Robin's
essentially singing in "The Flag I Flew" that the love is over.
I always thought this song has something in common with "August
October." They both have the image of a lonely person looking
out of a window, a short romance, and its sudden end described
using a theatrical image ("This theatre is over" and "It's
curtains today.")
But your suggestion "Two seabirds over" is interesting and
romantic, too. I never thought of it that way. I'll take another
listen! Thank you. :)
Best,
Kate
