Well, wouldn’t you go on stage if Michael called you? Since this is what Barry thought, I can see him complying. Since The Bee Gees were also inducted, I’d bet that they were sitting up front so Barry was able to get on stage quickly. Why Barry dragge

Two things I recall that may not be as accurate as I recall them:
1) Barry's son Michael was named after Michael Jackson.
2) Michael Jackson is the Godfather* of Michael Gibb.
And that may be what motivated Barry to drag young Mikey up to the stage.
Maybe. Not sure.
* lacking any sort of upbringing in Catholicism, I recognize that the only
thing I know about Godfathers came from watching that film where Marlon
Brando played Don Corleone. So I assume that Mikey was brought up there to
kiss the ring and pledge unwavering loyalty to the Jackson regime. But I
realize I am likely mistaken. (But having said that, Barry probably thought
the exact same thing.)
.
David Garcia, who actually suspects Barry went on stage when his name was
called simply because Barry assumes, almost always correctly, that he is
usually the only Barry in the room in NYC

Based on the footage I saw. Michael Gibb was standing with MJ (out of camera view) the whole time MJ was speaking. And Berry Gordy's name is pronounced just like Barry's

I actually don't know how it's pronounced either. And it would be
astonishing to discover that there is a different pronunciation, so
entirely different, that there could be no possible confusion.
Barry Gibb is usually pronounced either "Have Larry carry Barry" or "That
is very scary Barry."
Other possibilities? "Cheery bleary Barry?" "Starry Guitarry Barry?" No
idea.
I just assume that when Michael Jackson calls your name, you head for the
stage and you take your chances.

New Yorker's like me pronounce it Bar-ee. I would say the Gibbs themselves and the British generally, pronounce it the same way. However, I think most Americans say Bear-ee.

Or maybe try to find out for sure if he means you before heading to the stage? And also not take your son along?.David Garcia, who has enough troubles pronouncing the names of his Japanese in-laws in NYC.
