Samantha was at the sound check at Jones Beach. It was raining so they sat =
us on a ledge to the side of the stage. Good seats since it was nasty out. =
But yes, Samantha did come out and sing for a very brief moment, waved up t=
o us and said hello then disappeared back stage. Im guessing it wasnt to lo=
ng after that when she left.=20
Barry announced it shortly after the concert began that she had to leave an=
d is currently at the hospital being treated.=20

The overheard account of Samantha's
surgery may well be accurate; I have no
idea.=A0 The timing of "about a week before the Chicago
concert" would seem
to suggest that any surgery took place before the Jones
Beach show, but
there was something about Barry's slightly alarmist
announcement=A0 of "bad
news" and ongoing tests that made it sound as if there had
been no firm
diagnosis yet.=A0 Samantha does not appear in any of the
photos I've seen of
the Jones Beach sound check, though Yvonne does -- but maybe
she enjoys
standing around in the rain.=A0 Samantha's microphone
appears to be set up
for the sound check, but that probably doesn't=A0 mean
anything; I didn't
notice, but it might well have been set up that night for
the concert, too.

Thanks for the info, Danny. In fact, I now notice that there are 2
pictures of Samantha at the Jones Beach soundcheck on the "Private Bee Gees
Archive" web site:
http://www.private-beegees-archives.de/barry-gibb-konzerte/mythology-tour-2014/barry-gibb-nikon-jones-beach-theatre/
The page also contains some photos of the evening's concluding karaoke
event.
Although I realize that the black material lining the inside walls of the
Jones Beach stage is probably some highly advanced space-age product, it
sure looks like large-size Hefty trash bags to me.

I see someone has put He Made Me Laugh on Youtube. This is a real obscure
item, a song with music by Maurice and lyrics by Don Black, never released
on record but sung one time on TV by Marti Webb, in 1981. I got hold of Don
Black once a few years ago and he told me that Maurice really liked this
one. It's a cabaret torch song, pretty different from anything else Maurice
worked on.

-- and it was on The Two Ronnies, a comedy variety show. I almost expected
that at the end someone would toss a cream pie in her face, or fart loudly,
but, luckily, none of that stuff.
-- and see Don Black on wikipedia if you don't recognize the name. The best
lyricist Maurice ever worked with.
