Date: Wed, 15 May 2013 07:21:23 -0400 From: "Chris Mathis" <cmathis@brothersgibb.com> Subject: Redcliffe cashing in on Bee Gees Way with major boost for business and region Short URL: http://alturl.com/4pjz4 Three months on from Barry Gibb's return home to Redcliffe, the walkway honouring him and his brothers is giving a much-needed boost for businesses and the community. Moreton Bay Regional Council does not have a tangible way of calculating the impact, but Mayor Allan Sutherland said the response was better than expected. ``Bee Gees Way has certainly captivated the hearts and imaginations of locals and visitors,'' Cr Sutherland said. ``Many of the local business people I've spoken with in the Seaside Village tell a similar story; the number of visitors has increased and the volunteers in our visitor information centres agree.'' Hospitality businesses along Sutton St and Redcliffe Pde seem to have gained the most from the rise in numbers visiting the Redcliffe CBD. Oasis Cafe owner Billy Limov said: ``We always have heaps of inquiries from customers after they have had a coffee and want to know where Bee Gees Way is. ``They want to know where it is so you assume a lot of people are visitors because if they are from here, you would assume they know where it is. But that is one of the constants, you still notice it now, plenty of people are asking about it.'' Jetty Cafe supervisor Penny Hawes said: ``On Sundays, there is the markets and then they have lunch and then go to Bee Gees Way. I think it is a combination of those things, but it is an extra something that brings more people to Redcliffe.'' Cr Sutherland said Bee Gees Way was now a popular addition to the itineraries of many bus tour companies. The mayor said he was discussing other possible walkway elements with Barry Gibb but the council had not fully considered further additions. ``If the opportunity arises to develop the walkway in the future, suggestions such as additional music effects will be considered along with any licensing and copyright requirements,'' he said. http://www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/moreton/redcliffe-cashing-in-on-bee- gees-way-with-major-boost-for-business-and-region/story-fn8m0yu3-12266423620 57 End words@brothersgibb.com message digest 05/15/2013 12:01 (#2013-4202)
