Very well put Bob, I couldn't have said it better myself ;o) Have you checked that the size of the mail isn't too big, that's maybe why you can't get it through? /Ronnie _____________________________________________________ Hitta snörapporter... från 500 olika skidorter i Europa på http://se.snow.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Apr 2002 15:09:31 -0400 From: "Scott, Randy (SR)" Subject: RE: Living With You I totally agree, no one is suggesting plagiarism by the Gibbs. Oh, for crying out loud! We aren't accusing them of plaigirism! In these cases they are at the most tributes to Bjorn and Benny. If so Bee Gees in the late 60's had been ripping off the Beatles. Practically EVERY artist makes a nod of gratitude towards another artist when recording a song. We have been discussing influences from other artists like Talking Heads and Beach Boys on TIWICI and suddenly you say we are saying they are plaigirising ABBA.!!! Get real. /Ronnie ....OK, now I'm really PO Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2002 21:33:03 -0300 From: "Meta D" Subject: Re: Living With You Sorry, Julian, I called my experience with "Living with You" the plague of "plagiarists" and introduced that ugly word. I meant it as "so-called plagiarists" - purely a play on words, a recognition that any band would be hard-pressed not to be influenced by the music all around them - it must be the curse of songwriters to realize ...'Aw, shoot, this is too much like...." And, let's face it, there are probably almost no writers on this earth who are totally, absolutely original all the time. Given the fact that the Bee Gees were and are open to all the prevailing musical trends, it is inevitable that the ABBA sound, or the Beatle sound, or for that matter, the David Bowie sound, might influence them, just as their own hugely successful sound undoubtedly coloured the work of others. These things show up as echoes, or as Ronnie said, either intentional or inadvertent tributes. For me, hearing them adds rather than detracts from my experience of the music - it takes me back to the era itself - and it was a great one!
