To me the most important thing about this album is the fact that the Gibb release material that people would not expect could come from them, which is very brave, as the easiest way to go was keepping releasing disco albums and go living from the benefits of their stardom....as long as it lasted. But they change the path and make an album with ten songs and many diferent styles..., the album as a whole may be a failure because of that but what a power of creativity and versatility from a group many people found only capable of doing falsetto and disco tunes. It's a return to the shared vocals..., even Maurice has his lead, and the musical range is great, as we have falsetto (soldiers), a great ballad (paradise), a powerfull song (He's a liar, the one that follows the old way), Pop (Living Eyes, Wildflower), a classical Barry ballad (Be who you are), a disco tune revisited (Cryin' every day), a "modern" one (Nothing could be good) (Sorry Joe :- ) ), touches of adult music-a-la-Robin (Don't Fall in love...., I Still love you)..., not too bad for a "simple" CD. In terms of similarities I place this Cd together with Mr. Natural and This is where I came in, as all three follow the same "intention". Pity the audience did not gave an opportunity to this album, but they still placed the brothers in the irreal world of disco. In any case it ts not my favourite Bee Gees album, but a pleasure to listen to (as I'm doing right now). By the way, I really like this album.....well, one exception...I'm not fond of Soldiers...but other than that I think it's great. It is pretty diverse, and I agree it is not their best, but it has its listening niche for me (like fine wine--I choose Living Eyes when I want to be a bit mellow, or feel maybe just a little melancholy over past relationship errors--good album for that--that's how I equate the albums to my different moods, as a selection of wine is to meals!) Anyway, I have always liked He's A Liar. I particularly remember owning the single, and the B side was the instrumental of the song. I used to memorize the words, then flip over the 45 and sing it! I think I even took an old cassette recorder and recorded myself! I find the song fast paced with a bit of a kick to it. Somewhat reminiscent of Tragedy, in some way to me. I love Nothing Could be Good. Someone, maybe Mark, wrote how good it felt to hear Barry's real voice on it. So, so true. I have always preferred Barry's real octave. That's why I love what I consider "standout" songs like "How to Fall in Love, Pt. 1" from SIE. I LOVE that song! All in all, Living Eyes gets about a once a quarter year listen. Until now, when you all remind me of why I like it! I guess everything they have is on eBay. I'm still waiting on this seller to answer some of my questions, also.
